YKA 5786
Our Yom Kippur Appeal 5786 is now closed.
Each year The Ark Synagogue makes an appeal on behalf of member-nominated charities in three categories: International Jewish charity, UK-based Jewish charity and local charity. The charities are named below; they include three selected external specified charities and the Rabbis’ Discretionary Fund.
We will report on the funds raised for the charities in the May/June edition of Davar. If you would like to nominate a charity for 5787/2026, please contact the synagogue office by early June 2026.
The beneficiaries in 5786/2025 were:
- Israel Movement for Reform & Progressive Judaism (IMPJ) – IMPJ is our sister movement in Israel and leads recovery efforts, fostering resilience, advocating fair aid, and improving shelter access, especially for Bedouin, Arab, migrant, and other underserved communities.
- Future Dreams – A London-based charity providing a warm, supportive space for those affected by breast cancer to prioritise mental health and wellbeing.
- Leo Baeck College – A leading institution of Jewish scholarship, central to the intellectual and spiritual life of the Progressive Jewish community.
- Rabbis’ Discretionary Fund – As is the long-standing tradition, part of the proceeds of the Appeal will be used for the Rabbis’ Discretionary Fund. The fund allows the Rabbis to support our own members as well as identify charities and causes that require urgent support during the year.
We will report on the funds raised for the charities in the May/June edition of Davar. If you would like to nominate a charity for 5787/2026, please contact the synagogue office by early June 2026.
