Member Consultation

Is the future of Liberal Judaism progressive?

Our movement, Liberal Judaism, is standing at an important crossroads and has asked us to consult with our membership about whether our leadership should vote to wind down Liberal Judaism and join together with the synagogues of the Reform movement in a newly formed umbrella organisation, The Movement for Progressive Judaism.

Over the past 18 months, the movements have conducted an extensive feasibility study, including financial and legal due diligence, and began professional collaboration. An Advisory Board has overseen the process, and in November 2024, recommended proceeding with a full legal combination. The new movement aims to support and amplify the voices of Progressive Jews in the UK, reflecting the view that a unified movement will be more effective. You can access the full information pack provided by Liberal Judaism here. A shorter summary of the pack is available here.

To ensure that we can represent the views of our diverse membership, we encourage you to make your voices heard by answering some of the questions that we have formulated – there is no need to answer every question on the form and you are welcome to answer anonymously. Complete the form here. We also hope that as many members as possible will join us in person or on zoom for a Community Consultation:
